Growth

In June of 2018 I decided that I wanted to do a watercolor challenge. I liked the idea of taking up a new skill. I hadn’t used watercolor that much but I really wanted to see what was possible with this medium. In my art supply box I pulled out my student level watercolor palette, some random brushes, and left over paper scraps. Pansy and viola planters filled my doorway and my love for flowers made them the perfect item to paint each day. I liked the idea of repainting the same subject as I learned something that I could build off each day. Fast forward through the end of the month and I had a large study of violas.

Fast forward two years. My tools and understanding of the medium has improved, and my love for painting flowers has continued. Again there were pansy and violas blooming on patio and I wanted to see how my painting skills had grown in two years. After completing some paintings I was happy to see the progress. Sometimes it has felt like my progress has been slow but I learned that slow growth is good growth.
