I teach classes based in watercolor painting, block printing, creating/using natural pigments, drawing, and book binding.

Adult Classes

The Art of Botanical Watercolor

4/4 - 4/25, 10 AM - 12:30 PM
Center for Urban Horticulture

Come to this beginner to intermediate class to watercolor portraits of plants. In this class you’ll capture the different moments from the lifecycle of a plant (bulbs, seed heads, flowers, leaves, fruit).  Students will learn: how to create a harmonious color palette, techniques that produce realistic and accurate paintings, an understanding how light reveals form, and how to improve their observational and visual interpretation skills. Students will work from both photographs and live specimens. Upon completion of class, students will leave with finished watercolor pieces and the confidence to paint other subject matter!


Watercolor Washington Mammals

North Seattle College

Come watercolor Washington’s wild mammals! In this beginner to intermediate level class, students will learn techniques to create realistic and accurate watercolor paintings inspired by mammals found throughout our state. You’ll build skills for painting fur, texture, and form while learning how to observe and capture animal character. Students will leave with finished watercolor pieces of Washington mammals and the confidence to apply these techniques to other subjects.


Drawing Wildflowers

Unleash your creativity through the expressive power of ink drawing! In this class, students will focus on drawing Washington wildflowers, exploring a new bloom each week as inspiration. Using ink as our primary medium, we’ll learn how crisp, intentional linework can bring form, texture, and depth to botanical subjects. We’ll explore a variety of line and mark-making techniques, from loose sketching to more detailed work, and learn how different kinds of lines can be used to create texture, volume, and movement. Students will build confidence in observing plant forms, breaking them down into simple shapes, and layering lines to create expressive, finished drawings.


Polaroid Landscapes

Join us for a fun and creative watercolor class, where you'll paint charming mini Polaroid landscapes! Let your imagination run wild as you dream up serene scenes and bring them to life with watercolor. You'll learn essential techniques in watercolor and composition. By the end of the class, you'll have two mini paintings to show off! Whether you're a beginner or just looking for a creative escape, this class is the perfect way to dive into the world of watercolor art.


Watercoloring Beach Finds

If you're captivated by the treasures found on the beach—shells, seaweed, rocks, and driftwood—this 5-week beginner to intermediate watercolor class is for you! In this course, you'll learn how to: plan watercolor layers and glazing techniques, create varying values and textures and how to enhance your observational and visual interpretation skills. Come and bring beachcombing finds to life on paper!


Drawing Flowers in Graphite

Unleash your creativity and discover the enchanting world of flowers through the magic of graphite drawing. Whether you’re a beginner or an intermediate artist, this class is designed to guide you on your journey to mastering realistic flower drawings. We’ll build your observational skills, teach you the secrets of value, shading, and form, and help you create a sense of volume and delicate petal textures. You’ll learn how to capture accurate proportions using graphite pencils, and you’ll work from both photographs and real floral specimens. Throughout the course, you’ll practice techniques for line quality, layering tone, and creating depth. By the end of the program, you’ll have finished graphite flower drawings that will showcase your talent and skills, and you’ll gain valuable insights that can be applied to other drawing and painting media.

Scientific Illustration & Watercolor

Are you fascinated by nature and love to create art? Then this class is for you! We’ll use real specimens of plants and animals as inspiration to explore the world of scientific illustration, where accuracy meets creativity. You’ll learn how to make detailed, lifelike drawings using pencil, pen, and watercolor. Along the way, we’ll develop both your observation skills and your artistic techniques, helping you see the natural world in a whole new way. Come discover how art and science work hand in hand!


Magical Pop-up Books + Acro Arts

7/20 - 7/24, 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM

Come learn how to create pages that will come to life! In this camp students will unlock the imagination and explore how to create pop-up illustration out of paper. There will be an emphasis on how to construct pop-up artwork and at the same time students will learn how to add hand drawn illustrations to their pieces. Students will also develop their visual storytelling skills as they illustrate a short story with their own pop-up constructions.


Fantastical Forests + Dancing Gardens

8/3 - 8/7, 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Gage Academy of Arts

There are many magical forests around the world and they full of fantastic animals and plants. In this summer camp students will learn how to watercolor creatures and plant species of different forest (and forest types). One day painting slugs, ferns, and salmon found in the forests of the Olympic Peninsula. The next day painting Caribou, moose, and spruce trees of Alaska's forest. Students will spend the week learning watercolor technique as well as how to paint animals and plants. Come paint and see the world around us!
