Art in Action

Each week the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art releases a new Art in Action video. These short videos are perfect for people of all ages looking to find inspiration, keep busy, and stretch their creative muscles.

This year I teamed up with them to create three different videos.

Flower Crowns

I love a good flower crown! I especially love foraging for plant material and how those plants are connected to memory and place. I usually make flower crowns without any materials other then the plant matter. This means that I can make a piece at any time and it is fully composable. For this tutorial I added in string as it makes it a little easier to make.

Atmospheric Perspective

A simple landscape painting can be achieved by understanding two simple watercolor techniques. Value and graded washes help to achieve a realistic and atmospheric painting.

Texture with Salt

In this final video I created with BIMA, I show how to use salt in watercolor paintings. It’s an easy and effective way to add texture into your painting.

I collaborated with a teacher to turn this video lesson into an art integrated lesson plan.
